Debbie H.

Age:
42

Hometown:
I grew up in Hoffman Estates, moved to Chicago for a few years, and now live in Inverness.

How long have you been CrossFitting?
4 months.

Athletic Background:
I swam throughout my youth, and then competitively at Rockford College. After college I continued with swimming and started doing Triathlons in 2003. Since then I have competed in several triathlons, the longest being a Half Ironman. I have also run several half marathons.

What were your thoughts after your first WOD?
I couldn’t believe after doing triathlons for years, and considering myself in fairly good shape how hard CrossFit kicked my butt. It was using completely different muscles, and I learned that I really needed to improve my flexibility. But as hard as that first day was, it was a challenge in a positive way. knew that if I kept showing up I would grow both physically and mentally, and now I’m addicted!

What is something no one knows about you?
I played in the grand prize game on The Bozo Show when I was 7.

What are your training/fitness goals?
I was getting burned out on triathlon training. I was really tired of sitting on a bike trainer for hours at a time. I needed a change in fitness goals and a new challenge. I also felt that the strength training/cardio combo of CrossFit would enhance my swimming, biking, and running when I was ready to tackle another triathlon.

My CrossFit goals are to be able to gain more flexibility, start adding more weight, and conquer double unders!

What is your favorite CrossFit WOD/movement?
Deadlift, back squat

What is your least favorite WOD/movement?
Since I struggle with flexibility the front squat and snatch.

What is your favorite cheat food?
I love chocolate! And wine too if that is a food!

What’s your favorite thing about CrossFit?
I love CrossFit! I have seen progress in my strength and flexibility in a short time, and I want to continue to grow in the sport. CrossFit truly is a community, and more than that—a family that is so encouraging and supportive!  I love being a part of the Enclave family!

Any advice for people just getting started?
CrossFit is not easy, commit and just keep showing up! You will get better! Track your progress on the white board and WODhopper, you will be amazed at your progress. Be open to feedback from the coaches. Get to know the Enclave family, they are so fun and truly a family.
